The Langtang Gosaikunda trek is a challenging trekking program in the Langtang region. This trek includes the beautiful Langtang Valley, the holy Gosaikunda Lake, the Lauribina Pass and Chisapani. Backpackers looking for adventure and a challenging voyage near Kathmandu will love this trek.

From Kathmandu, you will travel north to reach the trailhead, Syabrubesi. Follow a less used trail for the first two days and rejoin the main Langtang Valley trail to reach Langtang Village. From here, you will ascend to Kyanjin Gompa, an ancient monastery. This is the last settlement in the Langtang Valley.

You will go on two hikes from Kyanjin Gompa- Kyanjin Ri and Cherukuri Ri. During your time here, you will also explore a local cheese factory, where you can taste and buy yak cheese. The trail then retraces the path back to Langtang village and further descends to Ghoda Tabela. You will trek through rhododendron forests to Lama Hotel.

From here onwards, you will begin ascending towards Gosaikunda Lake. The trail is now offbeat and much more steep. On the way, you will pass by villages like Thulo Syabru and Shin Gompa. You will spend a night at Gosaikunda. Enjoy the stunning beauty of the lake surrounded by snow-capped peaks. From here, the trail climbs Lauribini La Pass.

At this point, you have been trekking for more than two weeks and will be well-acclimatized to the elevation and environment. Start your day before sunrise and gradually descend along the northern shore of Gosaikunda Lake. Soon, the trail ascends to the top of the pass. After the pass, you will enter towards Chisapani.

You are at the final part of the Langtang Gosaikunda trekking. From the Laurbini Pass, the trail descends to Ghopte. You will slowly trek through dense forests, meadows, ridges, and remote settlements. After Ghopte, spend nights in Tharepati, Kutumsang, and Chisapani. From Chisapni, descend to Sundarijal, where the trek ends, and take a short drive to Kathmandu.

It is one of the most difficult treks in the Langtang region. Trekkers cross a high mountain pass, 4,610 meters above sea level. The terrain is mixed with rugged and offbeat tracks. Daily, around 6 hours of ascending and descending require good fitness.

Prevent altitude sickness

Trekkers can suffer from altitude sickness during the Langtang Gosaikunda trekking, so acclimatization is crucial. To acclimatize, you should trek slowly and maintain your pace. Likewise, keep yourself hydrated and do not smoke or drink alcohol.

Be aware of early symptoms like headache, vomiting, difficulty breathing, insomnia, dizziness, nausea, etc. If you suffer from them, inform your guide and get medicine under his guidance. If you feel any discomfort, let your crew know.

The best time to do the Langtang Gosaikunda trekking

The rooms do not have an attached washroom. The toilets are Western and squat style. Make sure you have packed all the toiletry essentials, including toilet paper, soap, hand sanitizer, wet wipes, etc. The sleeping rooms are small and very simple.

Trekkers get three meals a day. Pack ample snacks for the journey. You are free to buy additional food and drinks on your own. Dal bhat, thukpa, porridge, momo, noodles, fried rice, soups, and packages are some common foods on this trek.

How to obtain a travel visa for the Langtang Gosaikunda trek in Nepal?

A travel visa for Nepal is available at your country's Nepalese Embassy or Consulate Office.
