Lobuche East is a stunning 6000 meters peak to start your mountaineering journey in the Himalayas. It is a trekking peak, so the technical challenges are low to none. If this is your first time climbing a mountain, we highly recommend Lobuche East Peak as your first expedition.
Unlike the long expeditions in the Himalayas, climbers do not have to spend weeks at the Lobuche East Base Camp acclimatizing. On this trekking-style expedition, you will spend almost nine days walking across varying altitudes, enough to adjust to the elevation before climbing.
The Lobuche East Peak climbing itinerary also involves hiking to Everest Base Camp and Kala Patthar. So, you will have ample time to enjoy nature and discover diverse landscapes and local lifestyles. The trip is 20 days long, including your arrival and departure to/from Kathmandu and two full days in this city.
Climbers who want to remove trekking to EBC from the itinerary and only want to climb Lobuche Peak can contact us. We recommend shortening the trekking part to only those participants who are actively experiencing high altitudes and can adjust to elevation quickly.

What to expect during the Lobuche East Peak climbing 20 days?
Lobuche East Peak climbing is very adventurous. The experience this trip offers and the thrill you will feel is beyond your imagination. It is a lifetime venture in Nepal, which is, of course, very demanding but also very rewarding.
Climbed first on April 25, 1984, by Laurence Nielson and Sherpa Ang Gyalzen, Lobuche East Peak has become the best beginner-friendly peak in the Khumbu region. The peak is situated close to Mount Everest, so climbers witness jaw-dropping views of Everest and many other mountains during the journey.
You will start Lobuche Peak climbing from Lukla. Before flying here, spend two nights in Kathmandu. It is your arrival and preparation day. A short 30-minute domestic flight will take you to Lukla airport. From here, you will start trekking. For the first two days, you will trek to Namche Bazaar and spend a night at Phakding village.
The trail goes through rhododendron and Magnolia forests, following the Dudh Koshi River. Cross numerous suspension bridges on this part of the trail. The final couple hours of climbing to Namche Bazaar is steep. You will also spend an acclimatization day here and hike to the Hotel Everest View.
Further, the trail takes you to Tengboche village and hikes to Dingboche. Explore the Tengboche and Pangboche monasteries on the way and one more acclimatization day in Dingboche. Dingboche onwards, the treeline thins out, and you will walk on a glacier field to reach Dughla.
From here, walk past the memorial chortens to Lobuche village. It will take two days to hike to Everest Base Camp and Kala Patthar. Return to Lobuche village after the hike and begin climbing part of the trip. First, you will ascend to Lobuche East Peak Base Camp and then to Lobuche East Peak High Camp.
From here, follow the footsteps of your Sherpa and reach the summit. The summit day will be long and takes 9 to 10 hours. After the summit, you will spend a night at high camp or basecamp, and the next day, descend to Pangboche village. From here, it takes two days of walking to reach and fly back to Kathmandu.
Altitude sickness
Before you begin climbing, there are two rest days and a fantastic hike to 5,545 meters. You will spend nine days trekking and reach the Lobuche East Peak Base Camp on the tenth day. This nine-day walk is good enough to adjust to elevation and avoid altitude sickness during climbing.
Symptoms like difficulty in breathing, vomiting, nausea, dizziness, insomnia, loss of appetite, and headache are the early signs of altitude sickness. If you see them, inform your guide and take medicine.
Do not push yourself if you are not well. Mountains require patience, and only a healthy body and mind can conquer them!
Our guide will help you treat altitude sickness symptoms, and then only you will continue the journey. As a precaution, we recommend that you stay hydrated, have ample food, and ascend slowly.
Pre-climbing training
Pre-climbing training usually happens at the base camp. It is one of the perks climbers get with us. The team leader will organize a briefing and training session at the base camp. You will learn about the climbing route conditions and the climbing plan. Afterward, the leader will teach you some basic climbing skills that will boost your confidence and morale.
Lobuche peak climbing emergency and evacuation
Climbing in the Himalayas comes with the risk of accidents, injuries, bad weather, and altitude sickness. These factors may happen and are beyond our control. So, we have planned and tested an effective emergency and evacuation strategy for our climbers.
In an unseen situation that requires immediate medical assistance beyond first aid or in the event of any natural disaster that requires you to leave the region immediately, we will provide you with a quick helicopter evacuation. The team leader will notify us of the situation, and the process will proceed as per that.
Your leader will be equipped with a satellite phone to communicate with us regularly during the expedition. Likewise, the rescue team stays on standby. We are always there for you in the ups and downs of the trip. Your safety is our top priority.
Climbing experience and preparation
The Lobuche East Peak climbing 20 days demands strong physical and mental fitness. Participants must have previous trekking experience such as Annapurna Circuit, Manaslu Circuit, Everest Three Passes, etc. We do not need climbing experience; however, you need to have mountain awareness.
You can be mountain smart by researching, reading blogs, and watching videos on YouTube. These things will consciously prepare you for climbing. Before starting the trip, spend a few months improving your strength, stamina, and endurance.
