FAQs

Makalu Base Camp is regarded as one of the difficult treks in Nepal. There are several steep uphill and downhill sections made up of stone steps which make the trail tough. Also the trek reaches 4,870 m at Makalu Base and more if you wish to explore surrounding areas which makes the trail strenuous.

You don’t need to carry your tents, foods and other camping things for Makalu Base Camp Trek. There are Tea Houses along the trail which will provide food and accommodation. These Tea Houses are basic lodges in the mountains.

As of feb 2025 there is no electricity and Wi-Fi after seduwa. You need to carry your own power banks for the trek. (We highly recommend the ones that get charged with solar energy). The Tea Houses will have solar panels and inverters in some places but if the people in the Tea House are more you will not be allowed to charge.

Makalu Base Camp Trek is not something we suggest people with kids do. It is a bit challenging which might be difficult for the kids.

We suggest everyone carry large bottles with purification tablets / liquid. You will get water in the Tea Houses along the trail. In the beginning section you might also get bottled mineral water similar to cities. But as you approach higher you will have two options: Boiled water or purification tablets with tap water.

Makalu Base Camp is a remote trek in eastern Nepal and has very basic and limited infrastructures. This trek is not an ideal destination for big groups such as 20+. Average ground size of 10 -14 or less would be an ideal group size to trek in the region.

There are no ATMs along the trail and you should get your money exchanged in Kathmandu before the Trek. However, in case of emergency the nearest ATMs will be in Tumlingtar and Khandbari from Makalu Region.

Adventure Treks Nepal offers an easy booking procedure for everyone. You just have to email us about your plans and dates. Our expert travel leaders will design an ideal itinerary for you and take care of all the logistics.

Shiva Dhara is a waterfall situated high in the cliffs near Yangle Kharka which is a religious sight of Hindus. This waterfall is dedicated to lord shiva and holds significant value amongst the people of Nepal. The trail to reach Shiva Dhara is very steep and dangerous, including some sections where you have to walk on iron poles carved into the cliff.
