What is it like doing the Renjo La pass trek 14 days?
You will start the Renjo La pass trek 14 days, with a thrilling Lukla flight. A short 30-minute flight will bring you to the gateway of the Everest region. From here, start trekking to Phakding village for your first-night stay in the mountain. You will cross many suspension bridges on the way. The trail then ascends to Namche Bazaar.
The last few hundred meters of the route is steep. You will take an acclimatization break in Namche Bazaar before continuing the trek to Dole. This is where you will leave the mainstream EBC trail and follow an offbeat route to Gokyo Valley. From Dole, trek past Machhermo village and go through the Ngozumpa Glacier moraine.
Ngozumpa is the biggest glacier in Nepal. Further, you will come across the first two Gokyo Lakes and ascend to the Gokyo village, situated near the third Gokyo Lake. Spend the next day in Gokyo village as well and explore Gokyo Ri and the upper reaches of the valley where the fourth and fifth Gokyo Lakes are situated.
After your time in Gokoy village, you will ascend to Renjo La pass. This pass connects Gokyo Valley and Nagpala. The Nagpa La pass is a trading route that Tibetan merchants use to this date with their yak caravan. Crossing the Renjo La pass is considerably easier than Cho La and Kongma La because there is no glacier walking.
However, it has its own set of challenges. Once you climb the top of the Renjo La pass, you will get to witness a heavenly view of Mt. Everest and the Gokyo Lakes. This is the most challenging part of the Gokyo Renjo La pass trek. From here onwards, it is time to descend to Lukla.
You will spend a night in Lungden village and follow a tranquil route to Namche Bazaar via villages like Thame, Marlung, and Taranga. Visit an ancient monastery in Thame village. You will leave the Namche Bazaar on your 11th day of trekking and descend steeply via dense forests to Phakding.
The trail then ascends along the Dudh Koshi River to Lukla, recrossing it several times. To travel back to Kathmandu, you will take another short flight from Lukla. It will be quite a dramatic flight experience. You can check our Renjo La pass trek map below for a pictorial route representation.
