Is the Snowman trek in Bhutan suitable for you?

The Snowman trek is very challenging. It is considered one of the toughest treks in Bhutan and, of course, in the Himalayas. The trek crosses many mountain passes. Likewise, you will travel above 3,000 meters for several days.

Daily, 7 to 8 hours of walking is required, and some days, you may have to walk up to 11 to 12 hours. The terrain ascends and descends. You will trek via forested hills, steep slopes, and rocky tracks.

On top of that, it is a camping trek, so you must carry every little thing for the journey. The demands of the Snowman trek are high and, therefore, only recommended for trekkers with previous high-altitude trekking experience.

Food & Water

Our Snowman trek package covers three meals a day during the trek. Apart from your arrival day in Paro, all meals will be provided. While in cities, you will get breakfast, lunch, and dinner as per the menu of our selected restaurants.

During trekking, we will carry ample food supplies for the group. You will definitely have lots of Bhutanese dishes. However, we will also include some common Western options.

Likewise, there will be an adequate supply of clean drinking water throughout the trip. If you have any dietary restrictions, let us know in advance.

Accommodation

You will spend nights in nice hotels in Paro, Thimphu, Punakha, and Bumthang. During trekking, you will stay in camping tents. We will provide you with high-quality tents and all supplies for the journey. Our team will set up tents for you.

The tents will be set up with thermal mattresses, comfy blankets, and pillows. We will provide separate tents for sleeping, dining, and washrooms. Your sleeping tents will be equipped with a hot water kettle and other necessities.

High altitude and its effect

If you check our Snowman trek itinerary, you can see the altitude gain during this trek. The highest altitude you will touch during the trek is 5,230 meters. However, you will spend more than 16 days above 2,500 meters.

Acclimatizing is crucial if you are not used to this kind of altitude; otherwise, you may suffer from altitude sickness. Not only that, but high altitude also brings a unique climate and environment.

So, it is important that you take ample rest during trekking and do not rush. The most useful advice we can give you to avoid altitude sickness or, in general, any discomfort during the trek is to keep yourself hydrated.

Travel Insurance

We request travelers buy well-covered travel insurance for the Snowman trek 24 days. The travel insurance must cover your emergency helicopter evacuation and medical bills.

As you may understand, it is a remote trek in a region with nothing but nature and wilderness. Therefore, travel insurance covering air rescue and medical bills is significant during emergency situations.

Network/communication during the trek

You will not get a mobile network throughout the Snowman trek route. Once you start trekking and gain elevation, most part of the journey will be off-grid.

Our guide will be equipped with a satellite phone for emergency communication. However, trekkers must understand that they will not be able to use the internet for most of the trek.
