Best Season to trek on Tamang Heritage trail

From October to December is considered the best time of the year to hike this Langtang off the beaten trail. The temperature during these months are very suitable for hiking and the skies are generally clear with some of the splendid views of Langtang Lirung, Ganesh Himal and more. The nights will not be freezing cold and the wind is also less during autumn season. In this period Nepali people celebrate some of the biggest festivals such as Dashain and Tihar, because of which the villages become livelier.

Another perfect time for Tamang Heritage Trek is the spring season. With clear mornings and mountains full of snow from winter this season also offers some of the great views. However, if you have a busy schedule this Homestay Trek in Langtang is doable throughout the year without any difficulties.

Tamang Heritage Trek Difficulty

This 11 days homestay trek is not a difficult trek and anybody without any experience of trekking but is in good physical shape can easily complete it. The highest altitude 3,156 where there is very less chance of high altitude sickness. The trail has many uphill and downhill sections which makes it challenging though. All those walks will be rewarded with some of the great views of Himalayan range and rich culture.

However, it is always better if you involve yourself in walking and some physical exercises before your trekking. It will make your experience even better and less challenging.

A representative from Adventure Treks Nepal will be waiting for you outside Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu according to your flight time with a board mentioning your Name. One you meet our expert team member you will be accompanied by them to the hotel and help you with check in procedures.

With the intention of introducing Nepal's rich history and cultural display Adventure Treks Nepal has planned this day with Cultural Tour of three of the World Heritage Sites and important religious sites.

Breakfast will be served at the Hotel after which we proceed towards the ancient palace of Bhaktapur now commonly known as Bhaktapur Durbar Square. This 15 km drive from Kathmandu will take you away from the main city and onto the old settlement inhabited by the Newar community where you can still see the palace from 17th century. Our professional tour guide will accompany you as you wander into the surrounding area while he explains each and every tiny detail about this artistic town.

The second half of the day consists of a visit to two religious pilgrimage sites for Hindu and Buddhist religion. Pashupatinath temple, a Hindu shrine is the most important Shiva temple in the world where during your visit you will see many burning bodies as a part of Hindu cremation process and you get the opportunity to learn about many rituals that people follow in Nepal.

Bouddhanath Stupa, the biggest stupa of South Asia is the last destination for Today. This Stupa is believed to hold remains of Buddha and is a holy place for people following Buddhism. After completing all three destinations you will be dropped at your hotel for refreshment and free time.

Finally we will enter Langtang National Park just before Dhunche where our permits will be checked. The drive today has very nice views of valleys with rivers and takes you through the countryside of Nepal. You will see many interesting things along the way. Syabrubesi is a small town which is the base for a few treks in Langtang region and we plan to spend a night there.

Begini our hike from syabrubesi from where the trail climbs up towards Deurali after which the path becomes relatively easy. From the top after this uphill section Ganesh Himal range and Langtang Lirung appear in front of us with glorious views of the valley. Throughout the day we will pass many local villages as we continue further ahead. These locals will greet you with the most beautiful smiles and treat you with great hospitality.

Our destination for today is Tatopani where they have a hot water spring. On the initial part of the trail today we descend to Thangbuchet, where we can see Chilime Hydropower dam. Crossing a small bridge over Bhotekoshi River we begin to climb up towards Tatopani. On the trail Langtang and Ganesh Himal Range will always be towering in distance.

This is the longest yet one of the best days in terms of scenery. Our plan is to reach Thuman passing Nagthali. Nagthali is a place for local monks to meditate with excellent views of Langtang Lirung, Kerung, Ganesh Himal and Sanjen Ranges. Thuman is yet another Tamang settlement of Langtang Region and you will be treated with great hospitality by locals.

Another easy day as we begin to return towards Syabrubrsi. Today's walk will take us through thick Rhododendron forests and pass many Tamang villages on the way. The plan today is to have lunch break at timure before we head in the direction of Briddim.

People living in Briddim have descended from Tibet centuries ago because of which you will also see the influence of Tibetan Buddhism in the village.

This will be our last day of trekking. Following the Bhote Koshi River and passing several terraced fields and local villages our plan is to arrive at Syabrubesi for overnight stay. Once you arrive at Syabrubesi you can relax or take a walk around this small town.

Drive back to Kathmandu the same route. The road offers some of the great views of the Langtang National Park and its surrounding region before you enter Kathmandu valley. Upon arrival in Kathmandu, no further plans so you can relax on your own.

Essential Information

Permit: You need two types of permits which are issued by Government authorities. Adventure Treks Nepal will prepare these permits for you. Two of the permits are: Langtang National Park Permit and Trekkers Information Management System (TIMS).

Accommodation: For Kathmandu we will give you options of hotels while booking your trip. If you have hotels in mind that you wish to stay, please feel free to mention that to our team. ATN is very flexible with hotels and we can suggest the best hotel according to your requirements.

While trekking, you will be staying at houses of locals with the family. These houses are called Home stay and their aim is to give you the authentic experience of Tamang Heritage. In case of big groups, the group will be divided amongst different families and your fooding and lodging will be at the same house you will be sleeping in.

Transportation: All of our road transports will be done with private vehicles with Air conditioning. From Kathmandu to Syabrubresi and back you will be using a 4 wd Jeep just for your group for a comfortable experience.

Meals: In cities, breakfast is included which will be provided in your hotel. All three meals will be served during the trekking as is inclusive in the cost. While you stay at Home stay you will completely rely on foods that locals have.

Dal Bhat is a very popular food item which is served with rice, vegetable, lentil soup and spinach which you will be having a lot of. Apart from that some chapatis, eggs, local breads will be your meals during trekking.

Water: In the lower section of the trail you may get bottled water but we do not encourage you to use that as it pollutes the environment. Instead, taking water purification tablets is highly recommended by Adventure Treks Nepal.

Travel Insurance for Tamang Heritage Trek 11 Days

Although Tamang Heritage is an easy trek that will not take you to altitude above 3,200 meters, we still suggest you have travel insurance with helicopter evacuation. As you are out in a remote area, it is always better to have good travel insurance which will help you in times of emergency that may arise out of nowhere. Mountains are unpredictable and we should always be prepared for everything.

We will provide brand new duffle bags in Kathmandu for each of our clients which will later be carried by their porter in trekking. We never re-use our bags and these bags will be souvenirs for you and can be used to keep some extra items that you might buy in Kathmandu.

This is an off the beaten trail in Langtang region. Although Langtang National Park has many tourists visiting it, Tamang Heritage Trail receives very few people because of less commercialization.

Your personal expenses such as meals in Kathmandu, drinks, snacks, chocolate bars, shower cost, Wi-Fi charge, tips for guides, porters and drivers, etc. will be extra. So you need to have enough local currency for the trek.

Not really. This is a moderate trek which is suitable and can be completed by anyone. In fact, Tamang Heritage trek 11 days can be your first trek in the Himalayas as you prepare yourself for more high altitude treks.

Yes, we are 100% eco friendly and always encourage all our customers to contribute in preserving the environment. Our guides also have collected garbage from the trail and deposited it in the proper place. Our main motive is Leave no trace in any of our treks.

Shower may not be available in every Home stay you will be staying. In such a situation you will get a bucket full of hot water. Experiencing everyday activities of locals in their home will be remembered throughout their life.

There is a possibility of extending this trek further towards Langtang and Gosaikunda Helambu circuit. Adding these treks enables you to spend more time in Langtang Region and also offers some of the great views of the mountains from Kyangjin Ri and Tsergo Ri.

In case of an emergency like this you will be rescued by Helicopter or Jeep depending on the situation. All these extra costs for evacuation will be extra and are not included in the cost. That is the main reason why we ask you to have insurance before joining our trip.
