The Tiger Safari & Heritage tour is an easy 14-day trip. You will visit different historical sites, lakes, caves, and national parks. The tour starts in Kathmandu, which has the only operating international airport in Nepal. Below, we have shared the activities you will do in each city in detail:

Kathmandu

We have included the Everest Experience Flight in Kathmandu. It is a one-hour flight across the eastern Himalayan range in Nepal. The flight is safe, and every passenger gets a window seat to fully enjoy the views.

You will see mountains like Ganesh Himal, Langtang Range, Shishapangma, Gaurishankar, Everest, Lhotse, Kanchenjunga, etc.

Likewise, in Kathmandu, you will also explore historical sites such as Kathmandu Durbar Square, Patan Durbar Square, Bhaktapur Durbar Square, Monkey Temple, Pashupatinath Temple, and Bouddhanath Stupa.

All these places are UNESCO World Heritage Sites and present a glimpse of Nepali culture and traditions along with intricate art and architecture.

Here, you will visit the Bindhyabasini Temple, Gorkha Museum, Davis Falls, Gupteshwor Cave, International Mountain Museum, etc. Likewise, you will also visit Sarangkot to see a lovely sunrise and mountain views of Annapurna, Dhaulagiri, and Fishtail.

Chitwan

Chitwan is in the Terai region, aka plains of Nepal. Here, you will visit a Tharu village, an indigenous Nepali community.

Likewise, you will spend a full day in the Chitwan National Park doing things like jeep safari that will take you deep into the forests, where you may spot one-horn rhinos, elephants, royal Bengal tigers, deer, peacocks, wild boar, and many other birds.

You will also visit elephant and crocodile breeding centers. Other activities here are canoeing, water rappelling, bird watching, and sunrise at Karnali River.

Nagarkot

Nagarkot is a hill station near Kathmandu. You will visit here after returning from Chitwan. A night here will allow you to unwind and relax after all the adventures in Pokhara and Chitwan. Located 2,175 meters above sea level, Nagarkot is famous for sunrise and mountain views. On clear days, you can even see Mount Everest from here.

Bardia

The final part of this tour will take you to Bardia to see tigers one more time. You will spend three days locating tigers and other wildlife in Bardia National Park. Likewise, you will explore the city and also travel to nearby villages.

The tigers of Nepal

Tigers are one of the main highlights of this tour. You will travel to the Chitwan National Park and the Bardia National Park to see tigers.

Both these national parks have brilliant ecosystems and protect hundreds of species of plants, flowers, birds, and animals. Nepal has been putting a lot of effort into increasing the tiger population in the last few years.

By 2022, Chitwan National Park has shown over 125 tiger counts, and the Bardia National Park has shown 87 tigers. Royal Bengal tigers are one of the main species of tigers found in Nepal.

Upon your arrival in Kathmandu, our representatives will greet you at the Tribhuvan International Airport and escort you to the hotel. [If you have any immediate questions or need help, please ask our representative. The remaining day is free.

You will start the day with a warm cup of tea or coffee. Then, get ready for an Everest Experience Flight. It will be an hour-long flight across the eastern Himalayan range that offers views of mountains like Ganesh Himal, Langtang Range, Shishapangma, Gaurishankar, Everest, Lhotse, Kanchenjunga, etc.

After the flight, you will have breakfast and begin a full day of guided sightseeing tour. We highly recommend carrying Nepali cash in small notes to buy souvenirs and food during the tour. The guide will pick you up from your hotel at the designated time.

You will drive with him to different tourist sites around Kathmandu. We have Monkey Temple, Kathmandu Durbar Square, and Patan Durbar Square on today's monument lists.

These historical sites will provide you with the Nepalese historical background and a glimpse into Nepali culture, art, and architecture. All of these sites are open museums.

On this day, you will travel to Pokhara, the city of lakes. The flight from Kathmandu to Pokhara will be short and scenic. You can see the Himalayan range during the flight. Upon landing in Pokhara, the guide will escort you to the hotel.

Check in and freshen up. Later, you will visit the Bindhyabasini Temple, Gorkha Museum, Davis Falls, and other tourist sites with your guide. It will be a fantastic day. Spend the evening relishing the tranquility of Phewa Lake.

Wake up early and drive to Sarangkot. It is a viewpoint near Pokhara and also the Paragliding point. From Sarangkot, you will witness a gorgeous sunrise and breathtaking views of Mt. Fishtail, Lamjung Himal, Mt. Annapurna, Mt. Dhaulagiri, etc.

Enjoy your time here and drive back to Pokhara. The rest of the day is free. You can visit a few tourist sites and explore around the local market. Buy souvenirs and try some street food.

After spending some time around mountains and hills, you will now be amidst the wildlife in Chitwan. You will leave Pokhara early in the morning and enjoy a comfortable ride to Chitwan. The view will be spectacular during the ride.

The guide will help you settle in the hotel. Freshen up and get ready to visit a nearby Tharu village. Tharus are one of the indigenous groups in Nepal. During your visit, you will see their traditional attire and songs and taste some exclusive delicacies.

It will be a lovely evening with all the celebrations, delicious food, songs, and dances. Return to the hotel to spend the night.

All these monuments are must-visit places. You will dive deep into Nepali culture and heritage while exploring these places. Spend the evening strolling the bustling streets of Thamel.

Spotting a tiger in Chitwan National Park is not easy and depends on your luck. But that is not the case for Bardia National Park. So, now you will continue the tour from Kathmandu to Bardia.

First, you will take a 45-minute flight to Nepalgunj. It is one of the hottest cities in Nepal. From Nepalgunj, you will drive 1-2 hours to reach Bardia. This evening has a light village tour. You will have the remaining day free to rest.

Essential Information

Accommodation during the tour

The accommodation during the tour will be three-star hotels in all cities. If your budget allows, you can also upgrade your accommodation to four-star or five-star hotels. You can choose between shared or single rooms.

The rooms will have all amenities such as TV, AC, WiFi, etc. Likewise, there will be no issue with the washroom and hot showers.

Meals

You will only get breakfast at the package cost in Kathmandu and Pokhara. You have to buy lunch and dinner on your own. Likewise, in Chitwan and Bardia, you will get three meals a day- breakfast, lunch, and dinner. You can buy extra food and beverages on your own.

The meals will be provided as per the menu of the restaurants or cafes. You will get a wide variety of food to choose from. Nepali dishes will be the center of the tour. We want you to try as many Nepali dishes as possible.

Please communicate with your guide or waiter if you have any allergies or dietary restrictions. There is no issue with drinking water anywhere.

Travel Insurance

Travel insurance is not necessary for tiger safari and heritage tours. However, you can purchase one to have a backup to rely on during an emergency. You can include medical bills, flight cancellation, loss/theft of personal properties, etc, in your travel insurance.

Best time

Dry months are best for enjoying jungle safaris and spotting tigers. March, April, May, early June, October, November, December, January, and February are the top months for jungle safari. From March to June, the weather is stable. The climate will be hot, but you will enjoy the safari.

Likewise, December to February is winter, so the climate is cold. You can also do this tour in other months but make sure you are well packed and have patience to wait for the wildlife to show themselves.

Transportation

We have three domestic flights on this tour. You will take a short flight between Kathmandu and Pokhara, Chitwan and Kathmandu, and Kathmandu and Nepalgunj. The rest of the travel will be done by roadways.

The dry seasons (March to June) are the best time of the year for tiger sightseeing during national park safaris. Due to the scarcity of water in summer, tigers and other wild animals are more likely to gather around available water sources. Similarly, colder months like October and February are also good times to witness tigers.
